Everton's Baines on Man Utd's radar Ferguson believes he would be ideal successor to Evra

Everton left-back Leighton Baines has emerged on the radar of Manchester United as Sir Alex Ferguson seek a successor to Patrice Evra.
Ferguson has been given the greenlight from United owners Glazers to step up his pursuit of England defender with a £10 million offer, according to the Mirror.
Evra has appeared vulnerable this season and with Fabio Da Silva set to go out on loan next season, United will have no cover for the veteran Frenchman who turns 31 on Monday.

United had hoped to land their man for as little as £6m, given Everton’s precarious financial position.

But with Baines having three years left on his contract and the demand for the England international growing, United are ready to raise the stakes.

Ferguson is keen to wrap up the deal before the summer transfer business begins.
